• Play a provisional ball (Rule 18-3) if you think your

          original ball might be lost or out of bounds.

 

• Carry an extra ball in your pocket, just in case…

 

 

On the Fairway

 

• "Hit when ready” (Honors do not apply on the fairway)

 

• Plan your shot before you get to your ball.  Determine your yardage and make your club selection before it is your turn to play. Very often, you can do this while others are playing, without disruption. If you take your glove off between shots, have it back on before it is your turn to play.  Get to your ball as soon as is safely possible.

 

 

• Keep your pre-shot routine short.  (Aim to play in 20 seconds)  Pick your line of play once and trust yourself. Try to take no more than one practice swing, then set up to the ball and play your shot. Most importantly, be ready to hit when it is your turn.  

 

• Start moving toward your next shot promptly.

 

• Players who hit shorter distances should hit if longer players are waiting for the green to clear.

 

• Limit search for lost balls to 3 minutes

 

 

 

On (or within 10 feet) of the Green

 

• Honors applies if within 10 feet of the green, unless you are behind pace at which time teams may request to play out of turn to improve the pace of play.

 

• Guideline:  Give close putts if within the grip of your putter

 

• Study your putt while others are putting.

 

• Pick up your ball when you or your opponent has won the hole.

 

• First person in the hole should be the one to pick up the flag.

 

• Record scores at the next tee box.

 

 

Be aware of the new rule for Pace of Play in our HCC Rules and Regulations:  "Players will be warned if they are falling behind pace of play.  If players have been warned and are unable to pick up their pace - they will be asked to skip a hole.  In this instance, they would record an X for each player for the skipped hole.  No points would be awarded to either team for the skipped hole."
